Preparing for Clinical Emergencies when Caring for Two: A Review on the Assessment and Management of Various Obstetric Emergencies in Pregnancy

Pharmacist CE: This 2-hour, print or online monograph is a learning activity for obstetric emergencies that are life-threatening situations for the pregnant patient and the fetus. Optimal management of these situations typically occurs in the hospital by a multidisciplinary team including obstetricians, maternal-fetal medicine specialists, nurses, pharmacists, neonatologists, and more. This review will discuss the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic changes experienced during pregnancy and their impact on medical management; as well as the management of various obstetric emergencies including preeclampsia and eclampsia, hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelets (HELLP) syndrome, postpartum hemorrhage, amniotic fluid embolism, and cardiac arrest during pregnancy.

Once credit is claimed, please allow two business days to check NABP to see the credit applied to your E-Profile ID number for completing this activity. Per ACPE requirements, CPE credit must be claimed within 60 days of being earned. After the 60-day deadline, South Dakota State University College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions will not be able to report your credit for this activity.
